What an inspiring day for Guide N Grow! We had the unique privilege of collaborating with Stanford University’s renowned CHARM Lab for an immersive tour, where our students experienced a hands-on introduction to the fascinating fields of haptics and biomedical robotics. The day began with an inspiring talk from Professor Allison Okamura, where she explained the significance of haptic feedback in robotics and its profound influence on areas like surgical tools and human-machine interaction. Attendees were captivated by how critical these technologies are in enhancing precision and improving medical outcomes. After the talk, we were given a tour of the lab, where we learned firsthand about groundbreaking projects from the graduate and PhD students. These cutting-edge…
We had an amazing time collaborating with the Tracy Boys and Girls Club on June 20th and 21st, 2024! This workshop was unique because we targeted a younger audience than usual, working with girls in grades 1-4. Over two days, we explored topics like the Engineering Design Process, Structure and Stability, Circuits, Gravity and Forces, and Buoyancy. Seeing these young girls light up as they discovered new concepts and built their confidence in STEM was truly rewarding. Huge thanks to the Tracy Boys and Girls Club for this fantastic opportunity. We can’t wait to do it again!
We’re excited to share that Girls N Gears wrapped up our first Tracy Workshop Series at the Tracy Branch Library on July 3rd, 2024!This milestone marks an exciting step as we continue to expand our reach, empowering girls from grades 3-8 to dive into STEM with hands-on activities and engineering concepts.Similarly to our Mountain House Series, we worked with numerous girls from grades 3-8 and covered many Engineering topics, ranging from the Engineering Design Process to Biomedical Engineering. This series allowed us to reach a more diverse group of students and witness firsthand the incredible impact these hands-on STEM experiences had on their confidence and curiosity. We’re so proud of the growth we’ve seen and can’t wait for what’s…
Girls N Gears Tracy hosted the first session of their Tracy Library Series! Girls from grades 3-8 were able to learn about the Engineering Design Process and create exciting projects to practice it.
We’re thrilled to announce that Girls N Gears completed our first-ever workshop collaboration with a Tracy school on May 22nd, 2024!Through a 4-hour workshop split over two days, we offered an Intro to Engineering workshop for young girls at Central School to start to explore engineering and get excited about everything they could accomplish. On Day 1, participants explored the intricacies of the Engineering Design Process and how engineers go about achieving their goals and overcoming challenges, and practiced the process with a hands-on activity. On Day 2, participants got to further explore an aspect of engineering and learned more about static electricity, followed by several projects to help them explore further.
Had an amazing time representing Girls N Gears at the Robotics Competition in Stockton on May 11th, 2024! It was incredible to see so many young minds excited about STEM, and we loved sharing how our program empowers girls to pursue their passions in engineering and science. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to learn more about our mission to inspire the next generation of female engineers!
